1. ON/OFF the plugin (ON=ON)
2. Choose any image or selection.
3. With the original image selected, press the [W] key to warp. Press the [S] key to stretch the image or selection, and press the [D] key to warp and stretch the image or selection.
4. When the image or selection is warped, the menu will open, showing the options. Choose the effect you want, then press the [ENTER] key.
5. The image or selection is warped by the effect you chose. To undo the effect, press the [ESC] key.
6. To undo the whole action, press the [BACKSPACE] key.
7. When the action is done, the plugin will give you the option to save the warped image, and the menu will close.

Please note: The way this plugin works, it may not work perfectly on all images and selections, but it may still work to some degree. It will work the best on JPEG and TIFF images. It may not work on BMP, GIF, PNG, and DNG images, and on animated GIFs. If you want to use this plugin on a GIF, you will have to modify the GIF before adding it to your movie.

Using the plugin

Adding a distortion pattern to an image

1. Create a new layer and name it “Layer Distortion”

2. Put your selection layer and the “Layer Distortion” layer above it

3. On the “Layer Distortion” layer, use the Filter menu and select “Apply Distortion” (menu on the bottom left).

This will create a new layer above the selection layer.

4. Now select the “Layer Distortion” layer again, open the menu at the top right and select “Layer Properties…”

5. Go to “Distortion” in the left sidebar and change the “Method” to “Erode”

6. Click on the “Preview” button on the lower right.

Now the selection and the “Layer Distortion” layer are selected. You can see a distorted “rippling” effect on the selection.

7. Close the “Layer Properties” dialog.

1. Duplicate the selection layer

2. Now select “Layer Properties…” from the menu at the top right

3. Go to “Distortion” in the left sidebar and change the “Method” to “Displace”

4. Click on the “Preview” button on the lower right.

You should see a different distorted “rippling” effect on your selection.

5. Close the “Layer Properties” dialog.

Using the plugin

1. You can do two types of distortions. Erode and Displace.

Erode is the more blurry and you can also put a blur radius. Displace is more precise and you can specify how many pixels or percent.

Use the “Method” drop down at the top to choose between Erode and Displace

2. You can control the opacity of the distortions in the “Distortion Opacity” drop down.

3. You can control the amount of the distortions in the “Distortion Scale” drop down.

4. You can control the radius of the distortions in the “Distortion Radius” drop down.

5. You can control how much the distortions are spread in the “Distortion Spread” drop down.

You can use the Photoshop GUI or Ulead’s DTPWizard interface to generate distorted images from a source image.

In addition to distorted images, the plugin can use the XImage class to draw arbitrary patterns of varying size and colors into any portion of an image. If you don’t have a Ulead PhotoImpression, Ulead PhotoImpression Studio, or Ulead PhotoImpression Creator, the plugin can also render text patterns onto images, but it cannot draw text. Use the Photoshop GUI to generate images with the Ulead TextWarp plugin if you need to draw text.

This plugin was developed for use with Photoshop, although it can also be used with Photoshop Elements or Macromedia’s Freehand.
