Using the X-Y mode, all the information can be captured for any connection or device and saved or opened. In the case of the signal generator this must be a standard audio connection, but it can be almost anything. I am just intrigued that the wave forms are so much more vertical and smooth than the oscilloscope, when it is allowed to spend so much more time averaging!
The analog button allows you to select the channel (1 to 7, 0 is the oscilloscope channel). In the example above, for Channel 1 and the Measurement Device, I have selected UART. This is a test that I have covered in another article. You can do all your typical performance tests here, but it is more useful for diagnostic application where you can capture the current state of the system.
When you have selected your measurement and click the Setup button, the next window is set up. You need to set your software up so that the oscilloscope can capture the waveform. This means selecting the appropriate channel, target, trigger and continuous recording options. In this case, I have selected Channel 1 and UART.

In my video I show the oscilloscope at work in the usual way. The only extra thing I did was to use a line input to add a recorded waveform. If you look carefully at the start of the video you can see a problem. The green line on the left is a sinusoid, starting at zero and increasing in intensity. The red line on the right is the same but with a reversed polarity. The problem is I didn’t turn off the internal oscillator when I captured the analog data. The resulting voltages are about +/- 10V and can be positive or negative. They are about twice the amplitude of the original waveform and usually half the frequency. To get them working right, disable the oscillator using a channel in software. BitScope Micro can be programmed in many languages and OpenSCAD is one of those. As I’d used it before, I decided to run a 2-pole low pass filter first, then plot the frequency domain data, then plot the Time Domain data.
Next I loaded an analog data file and watched it in action. I started the oscilloscope to the left of the start of the waveform so that I could see any transients occur as the digital oscilloscope triggered the analog data file into BitScope Micro.
Finally, I fed the output of a function generator into BitScope Micro and inspected it. I didn’t zoom in too far because I thought the waveshape was quite easy to see. The waveshape is the superposition of the original waveform and the DC offset, in this case +5V. The oscilloscope has automatically added 5V to the top of the DC offset, which might not be the case if you use external equipment.
In my video, I show how I used a differential input to measure the output level of the audio amplifier. I found this data was really hard to capture on my oscilloscope, especially during the fade in when the level was changing. Once I did capture it, I did some further experiments on linearity. So I listened for a short interval with BitScope Micro during the fade-in phase. Then I captured another short interval on the same channel with BitScope Micro measuring differential signals.
