this year, the company upgraded the celaction2d software, and they have now released a new version that includes a new skeleton-based animation tool called animator edition that will be available for $50 to “mid-sized” animation studios who want to use the program in conjunction with their studio-grade rigging products.
the most recently released version of celaction2d is now a perpetual license with an optional license key for $1,500 and $2,000. the perpetual license includes the animator edition tool and a bonus software suite called celaction studio which contains a new range of tools that enable content creators to create new content in the same style as the original content, such as new characters, props, backgrounds and environments. the animation and design team at toon hound have been using celaction2d for a number of years and can share some of the processes they use to create their animations.
while the animator edition of celaction2d will be available to all perpetual license holders in june, if you’re a company that’s already paying for a perpetual license, the animator edition will be available to you for free until the end of the month.

the cloth cat animation team are also about to offer a course on celaction2d for the international association of broadcasting (iab) on 02/03/2018. this free one-day course will provide a good introduction to celaction2d and will be given by niels mols, an animation industry veteran and expert.
besides the new animation modules, celaction2d is equipped with a host of new features and improvements. first, animators can now choose their own animation style, changing the way their characters look and behave. this feature, which the developers call “animation profiles”, also lets animators create more than one set of animation variations and save them for use on different characters and characters within the same production. animators can also mix and match their animation profiles with the cel style of a particular series.
