using the chrysler wiring adaptor harness, part # 82207541, the rb1 will plug directly into 1999-2001 wj vehicle harnesses. a mopar 10-pin to 8-pin cd changer cable is required for operation of the factory 10-disc cd changer in all pre-2002 wjs.
although not as rare as a vin 9 digit number, most navtec units also have an sn, but many don’t have one. the sn can be of various values such as:
* 010- 489
* 010- 789
* 010- 889
* 010- 999
* 010- 989
* 010- 989- 999
* 010- 989- 999- 989
* 010- 989- 999- 989- 999
* 010- 989- 999- 989- 999- 989- 999- 989
* etc..
in fact, all the navtec models in the above list have an sn between 010 and 889. however, some have a sn of 010-989, 010-789-999-989, etc. a navtec with a sn of 010-989 is an older model. a navtec with a sn of 010-8-9-9-9-9-9 is an older model, and it was not re-numbered to the 010-8-9-9-9-9-9-9-8. i have one of the 010-8-9-9-9-9-9-9-8 that was re-numbered to 010-8-9-9-9-9-9-9-8.
note: the nav unit shown above was originally unveiled on this web site more than a year ahead of its release. it is the rec that is used on most of the new 2005 chrysler, dodge and jeep vehicles. for more information on this unit see: the new rec radio is not compatible with most pre-2005 models as it is based on the new can bus communications system. however, it has been recently learned that the rb2 can be adapted to work in 1990s chrysler vehicles (like the cirrus, zj grand cherokee and wrangler), more information will be available as we receive it.
the newest models of the uconnect system from chrysler navtech are equipped with the latest generation of their oem-embedded unit, the rec radio. this rec radio is not compatible with most pre-2005 models as it is based on the new can communication system.
the nav system is available as a factory installed option on 2005 chrysler, dodge and jeep vehicles. it appears that all of the factory installed rb1 systems include the remote 10-disc cd changer as part of the option package.
this unit is a single unit in-dash am/fm/cd/navigation radio. it was released as a mopar accessory for dodge, chrysler and jeep vehicles in november 2002. the unit features a 4.1 inch (actual size) navigation screen and is dvd based. it uses just one disc for all of the u.s. and parts of canada, and features turn-by-turn directions with voice prompts. also featured is a single slot cd player with cd changer controls. the rb1 has a built-in fan on the rear for heat dissipation.
