The Digital Frequency Visualizer application samples data at 22 kHz Stereo and displays up to 5 times a second the frequency components in a logarithmic scale.
Once started it tries to open your sound source.
If you are playing a wave – please make sure this is at 22 kHz. Playing cd or line-in is always fine. If you have multiple sound cards you may select one.

I am using FFmpeg and Gstreamer to decode and stream audio files to the SRC.

I have three problems:

Everything works well, until I start playing a CD.
When I start playing from CD the SRC breaks
When I try playing a file stored on a network drive the SRC breaks.

I use the ffmpeg command-line as follows:
ffmpeg -i example.wav -f s16le -acodec pcm_s16le -channels 1 -y example.wav
I have checked in the ffmpeg log file and cannot see any obvious reasons why the SRC breaks. What can I do to see what is going on here?

The line below:
ffmpeg -i example.wav -f s16le -acodec pcm_s16le -channels 1 -y example.wav

is incorrect:
-f s16le means “sample data is in 16 bit stereo signed format”
-acodec pcm_s16le means “sample data is in 16 bit stereo PCM signed format”
-channels 1 means “sample data is in 1 channel”

Try:
ffmpeg -i example.wav -f s16le -acodec pcm_s16le -channels 1 -y example.wav

The above will decode the audio into 16 bit samples (1 channel, 1 byte per sample) and display the output via your sound card.
