Invert Alpha is a plugin created by Gabriel Baumeister that can invert a picture’s alpha channel based on your set tolerance.
The plugin’s simple interface is user friendly, and allows you to choose the channel to invert, and the tolerance threshold, to determine the inversion level.
Fixing Homogeneous Alpha
If your.jpg,.tiff,.png, or.eps image contains the homogenous channel, there is no way to correct it.
In this situation, you can use Invert Alpha to invert the alpha channel, but you will not be able to correct the image’s homogenous channel.
Using the Alpha Channel
The Invert Alpha plugin can invert your image’s alpha channel based on two parameters.
The first of those parameters is a percentage tolerance, which sets how many percent the alpha channel inverts.
The second parameter is the channel you want to invert, which can be either the alpha channel or the luminance channel.
Either option works, and the plugin even allows you to use both options at the same time.
Configuring a Project
Right-click the project and select the “Load project” option.
The project will open up so you can select a project, click the “Load” button, and then select the picture you wish to correct.
Note:
The Invert Alpha is created for use with 16×9 images, so be sure you select your picture in the center of the 16×9 screen.
Matching the Tolerance
To set the correct tolerance, start by looking at the image.
You can do this by turning on the “Show Tolerance” option in the Options dialog.
To make the plugin produce a more accurate inversion, make sure that the “Show Tolerance” option is turned on, and that the “Fidelity Radius” is set to something that is a reasonable number for your image.
Example: Using a 90% tolerance
Using a 90% tolerance, the Plugin will invert the image based on the alpha channel and the red, green, and blue channels.

The image was inverted based on the alpha channel and luminance, and then inverted an additional 10% based on the red, green, and blue channels.

Introduction:
Invert Alpha is a Paint.NET plugin that can invert a picture’s alpha channel based on your set tolerance.
Invert Alpha is useful when dealing with transparency gradients, creating alpha masks, and more.
Tolerance Adjustments:
Invert Alpha supports two tolerance adjustments:
– Tolerance: A value between 0.0 and 1.0, which is the fraction of pixels in the image which have to match in order for a match to occur. A tolerance of 0.0 means no matches and a value of 1.0 means exactly the same.
– Number of Matches: A value between 1 and N where N is the highest number of mismatches of pixels which will trigger a match. A value of 1 means exactly the same matches as in an original image. When the tolerance is set to 1 and the number of matches is 2, then two pixels of the original image will have to match for a pixel in the inverted image to have the same value as the original.
