Expectations from a text editor are pretty high, so the lack of support for other file formats rather disappoints. It’s not only file formats that come in question. You’re provided with much less support than you would expect for something being regarded as a modern version. Though, the operating systems you find on the market nowadays are not based on Windows XP, but Windows 7. This is among the reasons why ShadyTXT hasn’t been updated for quite some time, but you do have the option of starting a free trial, which gives you access to a couple of samples and some other features. The ones most notable are the default background color, a white one, and highlighter to mark out parts of the document.
Font characteristics can be changed through a default panel, but, just like for color, changes apply to the entire document. They’re saved, so that you can easily switch back to your regular settings. Files are saved as TXT by default, but you also get the opportunity of exporting them, which is more convenient than saving. However, this option might not be able to keep you in good shape. There’s a search and replace function, but not a replace a selected piece of text, so the options aren’t what you’d expect.
To end off, we’d like to mention once again that the lack of flexibility in regard to the file formats currently serves as a major problem.
