although it is limited to 44 patterns, drumazon has a remarkable amount of sound customization. all the parameters can be edited. the program is highly multi-platform friendly and can be run under windows xp, vista, or mac os x with no problems. it will probably run under most linux systems as well, but i’m not sure about that. the drumazon sequencer is a great feature. you can set the pattern for each of the 8 banks to play on a loop. you can also start a loop, edit the tempo, and advance the notes, to create a great sound. this is not entirely like the original, but it is close enough. once you have a loop set up, you can use the midi learn function to adjust settings.
the program is extremely easy to use. once you’ve selected the desired sequence, you can quickly adjust parameters and sequence them. midi learn is a great feature. you can easily store settings for a certain pattern. as long as you keep the relevant midi cc track open, you can control all of the drumazon settings directly with midi cc. the midi learn function is very easy to use. this program is a must for anyone wanting to learn how to use the original 909. it is pretty cheap, but worth the purchase price.

drumazon features a large collection of 909-patterns which allows you to quickly insert and insert other patterns using the piano roll view. most users will find a few of their own particular patterns quickly. the piano roll view, that allows you to scroll through, zoom into, search and select patterns, only becomes more useful as you find new patterns on their own. this is useful especially if you’d like to insert patterns from multiple software packages and use them together.
the key new feature for this edition is the ability to automate the triggering of the instruments. you can make both the start and end of each pattern dynamic, so that you can move between instruments to create different feel to the groove. simple automation, like the start and end of the pattern, is also available, as are dynamic oscillator shapes like saw and triangle. every sound is programmable to different modes to affect its envelope, waveform, filters, eq and the amount of resonance. the same applies to the triggering of the gate and crossfade. here too we can hear the oscillator shapes tripping the triggers, something which would have been unheard of back in the day. in the automatable settings you can set the drum machine to control the crossfade, or a hi-hat or kick to create a percussive dialogue with a drum machine.
there is also a collection of function buttons on the top panel including mix, solo and mute functions for each of the drum instruments. these have been done in the same crisp silver/blue as the main display. the window lists all the instruments, and you can change the view using windows combos on the main panel. you can also stop/resume playback of a pattern via its number within the list. the up/down buttons can be used to quickly cycle through the instrument list and quickly select a different pattern (hold down to select multiple patterns).
