In fact, the story had just a few days before Javed Akhtar released it, but his version Tiger Zinda Hai was like a soulless Hollywood version. So, if you liked Akkad a lot, you need to see Lootera.
3. Waqt (1996): Another great movie that made those forget all the other English Vinglish versions, Waqt is the longest Bollywood film ever made, with a runtime of 153 minutes. Although, Hollywood didnt translate it that much, with a runtime of 181 minutes.
This movie is the story of two great friends who got into conflict when one of them cheated on the other. After that, the couples friendship went downhill and the other guy stopped visiting his friend. Ten years later, they are both married with kids and living apart.
Of course, Vishnus not the evil genious you’d expect. He eventually has some unsavory doings with her, but in the process he discovers that theres a lot more to her than he first thought. She was a girl from another era, raised in a house built on the desecrated site of an old temple. When she was younger, her parents wanted her to marry a boy from another social class, but she refused because she wanted to marry a man of a higher rank. In many of the horror movies, most of which include a house with a definite haunted theme, its that weird fact that perhaps gives the whole premise legitimacy. The protagonist learns to accept his own mistakes, and most importantly, learns to accept who he is. This is the reason why ghost movies are so popular in India – they offer a window into the reality that you as the audience inhabit.
this movie is not really about a ghost, but a demon. however, this could be mistaken for a ghost as it follows the same formula. the plot is about a woman who returns to her hometown after living in a city in order to be with her husband who has recently died. however, the movie does not begin like a typical ghost story, but with the woman being haunted by her past, and even living in her husband’s former house. it has a lot of jump scares, and has a few neat items to keep you on your toes. it’s not really scary, but it’s pretty good.
at the beginning of the movie, you can see a character trying to pick up a cigarette butt that fell on the ground. but unlike most of these bollywood films, the character doesn’t pick it up and throw it away; they start smoking it and they start acting crazy after that. and so does the viewer. so, one can see a scene from jumping the broom in the beginning of the movie. however, the scene is not really that of jumping the broom as the film evolves as it progresses. the plot is a bit of a mess, and some of the characters are not very good.
it’s hard to say if this movie is based on the virgin suicides or if it’s based on the sixth sense. either way, this movie has two directors (aditya chopra and sujit mitra) working on it. it’s a very powerful story, and has quite a few jump scares. but it is also very slow and ends quite suddenly. however, if you’re looking for a film that shows a young man’s loss of innocence, then this film is for you.
