the commander’s suspicions are confirmed when the zaft pilot reports that the impulse gundam is piloted by a coordinator. zaft’s forces counterattack, and a fierce battle between zaft and the earth alliance ensues. after the battle, the impulse gundam’s pilot, athrun zala, is killed in a battle with a zeon zz custom-00 mobile suit. his death is confirmed when the pilot’s body is recovered. though the zaft forces have claimed that the impulse gundam is piloted by a coordinator, the earth alliance refuses to believe the zaft commander’s report and continue to battle them. at the same time, the earth alliance commander also learns that the pilot’s name is athrun zala, and determines to capture the impulse gundam for further investigation.
