ive been lucky. i was very fortunate that you know, i got in there early. and so there were a lot of talented people there, but i was already kind of, i had a philosophy and a way of making movies. and you know, so that was helpful, but it was also a little daunting. i did get to work with great directors like christopher nolan, who was also a producer there. i got to work with lee krasner and we did some really great stuff. so i do have good memories of it. when you have a great time making a movie with people you really respect, its hard to not go back to that and not appreciate that. there were a lot of people that i worked with that were really good. but also, in those early days, there were a lot of early adopters. and the studios used to look at what we were doing and say, well, thats a little different. you know, this is a little too cartoony, this is a little too dark, this is a little too scary. but eventually, i think they all changed their approach because they all realized, that if they dont make movies like this, somebody else will.

when the first edition of deadpool came out, our marketing team took the liberty of predicting the future. because we’re always looking for the most original ways to connect with fans. and we do that by focusing on what we love. its a self-indulgent joke, but we get exactly what we want. when we showed this project to ryan, i told him, i think we’re in the best position we’ve ever been. we have a studio that’s letting us make this movie. we have a director that’s an experienced comic book director, and we have a star who’s one of the biggest stars in the world. so we have all the ingredients. we have a 20th century fox that loves this movie.

those who thought deadpool might just be a smidge more violent than your standard avengers or x-men movie, know this: it’s not for middle schoolers. the adult language, the sex/nudity and innuendo, and the gore are too plentiful to recommend even for avid young high schoolers. but for adults and mature older teens who enjoy the marvelverse, deadpool is a fast-paced, entertaining origin story that winks enough at the genre without straying too far from the winning formula that even the credits acknowledge (starring some idiot, hot chick, moody teen, british villain, etc.).
you know how i know deadpool is going to be different from other superhero movies because deadpool never stops telling us that it will be different from other superhero movies. whether or not that actually comes to pass, you cant really argue with the 20th century fox marketing strategy for the film taken straight from the main characters own foulmouthed and fun playbook. marvels latest screen star gets in this weeks list thanks primarily to billboards hey, if it gets patton oswalt excited, youre on to something. onward!
deadpool is an utterly essential part of the marvel cinematic universe; he embodies the spirit of humor, style, and spunk that make the mcu so unique, and is fun to watch. this makes it all the more surprising that fox didnt translate the entire movie, but instead only used a small fraction of the dialogue (what, are they worried about spoilers?). even though the movie is in english, it has some weirdly corrupt and incomprehensible lines, a disjointed script, and a cast of characters that are so dull and monotonous that they are hard to remember. it also feels slow and redundant at times. overall, the movie is pretty forgettable.
