Releasing in June 2002, Chamika Chaudhury made her debut as an actor when she landed the role of Chirag in Makdee. Chaudhury played bit parts in various successful films including Sherly (2007) and De Dana Dan (2013). The daughter of actor Devika Varma, Chaudhury is currently married to cricketer Gautam Gambhir.
The film is an adaptation of the famous Belgian comic Tintin in Tibet written by Georges Remi and illustrated by Herge. The film is perhaps best known for being the first 3D film in India and the first film to have theatres adopt Dolby Digital 5.1 Dolby Surround sound.

Meanwhile, Shweta Basu Prasad entered the Hindi film and TV industry at a very young age. She starred in several films including 2002 film Makdee for which she won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist. She went onto star in Iqbal, Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi! Darna Zaroori Hai before venturing into Bengali, Telugu and Tamil cinema. Her last outing in films was 2017 film, Badrinath Ki Dulhania in which she essayed the role of Varun Dhawans sister-in-law.
Chunni s school master visits the mansion but a small puppy is seen exiting the mansion and people presume the witch has turned him into a puppy. Mughal-e-azam after spotting the puppy realizes it is his pet dog that had entered the mansion and has disappeared ever since. Its then Chunni realizes that all this was just a ruse. Makdee is not a witch and she does not really turn humans into animals; she merely locks them up and has some plans of her own. All the people locked up are finally freed and the village finds a new hero in Chunni.
The film has its plot inspired by Agatha Christie’s novel The Mousetrap, and will be produced by Gautham Menon and Jayant Matande of S.S. Pullaiah Studios, the makers of “3” and “4”. “The story revolves around a playwright, living in the vast house, his daughter-in-law and his granddaughter. Before long, he becomes the prime suspect in a murder case. Can the playwright make it out of the maze?
Speaking about Njanu Naanu Nilavinte, Ganesh Mallya told IANS: “I am very excited about the song and the song is very good. There is an element of comedy in the song. It has a different feel from the other songs of the film. It can be sung at a wedding also. The song is very good in places where one can dance on an event. The song is very positive in nature.”
Synopsis:A portly, well-dressed wimp, Makdee (Shabana Azmi) is a living legend in her village for her magical powers. After she is accused of using her voodoo magic to turn villagers into animals, she decides to leave the village. A local girl, Chunni (Shweta Prasad), convinces Makdee to perform a magic spell that will cause her to look like an hens, in order to help Chunni get her Munni back as human.
A lot has been said about the similarity between the film Midnight’s Children and Children of War, but after watching both the movies I’m not sure which is better! From the quirky storyline to the fun to the insight to the music, both the movies are brilliant. This first of its kind film is definitely one of the best films of 2002.
Shabana Azmi’s performance as the witch has been widely discussed, but her best moment is when she saves her mother from the village bully. Though she’s old enough to be her grandmother, Shabana’s performance as the witch is so endearing that you can empathise with the little girl that she is. The fact that the make up used to transform the witch has been extensively researched adds to the credibility of the movie, and the fact that the film was financed by a young Shiv Sena MP definitely adds to its political correctness.
