Herbie: Fully Loaded is a direct-to-DVD sequel to Herbie Goes Bananas (1980), which featured a returning Herbert (Michael Keaton) trying to repair Herbies car in order to visit Paris and take the girl of his dreams (Cher) along with him. The sequel in our example, brings Herbert and Herbie back together as they attempt to catch a bag of money thieves. Herbies car is on the side of a seaside cliff, so he is forced to get a boat or drive his personal jet. This sequel takes the viewer on the boat ride and refashions a small portion of the original movie in order to set the stage for this follow-up. Creator Frank Thomas and story board artist Bill Keelan, who worked on Paper Moon, have been talking about a sequel to the 1973 Herbie: Fully Loaded for over a decade. There wasnt even a prequel in the planning stages. In 1998, Thomas was working on a contemporary story for Herbie called Pay Me My Money Back, and Keelan was a producer on Oliver Stone Any Country. Both had come back to the project to develop another story, and Thomas decided to do his own script. He worked with animator Peter Hewes on the adaptation and two years later Herbie: Fully Loaded 2 was announced.
Herbie is back for more zany hijinks, racing, and of course, more love. The last Herbie movie featured Herbie in what was probably the wackiest episode of the entire TV series. In Herbie: Fully Loaded (1992), Herbie recovers from his most recent breakdown and embarks on an emotional journey as he gets back to being a car in a world where cars are the most stable form of transportation. This time Herbie has fallen in love again, and this time its with an automobile, and someone who is fond of wearing sports bras. Unsurprisingly, he has a meltdown. Herbie has never been the type of character that appreciates the effort of others, and as it turns out, he is just as cantankerous as he has ever been. This time, though, he has a best friend in a talking car who is very hard to tell apart from a cuddle-bug, sweetheart.
For months we’ve been hoping that the new Twilight movie would make as much money as the first three. In January it came out doing all right, but the studio was hoping for better than $150 million. Its not until this week that we learned that Twilight ended its run at the box office with the highest gross ever for a movie about vampires. It did so not by the hope of a good take, but rather by the chance that someone else might steal the title.
