The Afghan Air Force will have a new aircraft that has the capability to perform air-to-ground and aerial reconnaissance for the Afghan people, and provide combat validation for the A-29 Super Tucano.
The A-29 Super Tucano is a light air support aircraft that will be provided to the Afghan Air Force for air-to-ground and aerial reconnaissance capabilities to support Afghanistans counterinsurgency operations and airborne self-defense for their government and citizens.
In the interest of fostering the Afghan Air Force, AETC is investing more than $23.5 million in the A-29 Super Tucano, which is a light air support aircraft that will be provided to the Afghan Air Force for air-to-ground and aerial reconnaissance capabilities to support Afghanistans counterinsurgency operations and airborne self-defense for their government and citizens.
The first Afghan Air Force A-29 Super Tucano will arrive at Moody Air Force Base, Ga., to start the training, Feb. 18, 2016. The first three A-29s will be delivered to the Afghans by January 2017.
