daphne seems to be velma’s shadow; if velma demonstrates a certain skill, daphne is sure to learn it. daphne has been shown to be quite famous and is also a member of the spacey ghost club. she has made her home in beverly hills since velma, fred, and shaggy moved in. her favorite color is pink, and her middle name is carol. she often uses her college education to assist fred and velma in their investigations. she is considered a member of the thirteenth gang. daphne has a tendency to carry around a tube of silly string, which she uses for comedic effect. daphne’s friendliness to the point of being obsequious, leads her to say things about fred, velma, and shaggy like “buddd” or “buddah”; in the same manner, she is often disappointed if she is not treated like a budddah, like her classmates do when she says “i am a budddah”. she has, on rare occasions, used a different catchphrase of hers, where she says that her name is daphne. this is a reference to all the females in the group who are named daphne. it is also a reference to singer daphne ashbrook, who was portrayed by daphne curran on the monkees television show. it is also a reference to daphne, a character in the novel the canterbury tales by geoffrey chaucer, who makes a plea in the prologue to her readers to consider her as a model of faithfulness, to whom many other women of their day would aspire.
