the book shows the use of nanoscale optoelectronic devices with complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (cmos) vlsi in the manufacturing of very-large-scale (vlsi) optoelectronic integrated circuits and systems. photonics is a traditional integral part of electronic system design, and has numerous advantages as an alternative method to replace the more expensive electron beam methods in cmos vlsi fabrication. to demonstrate the value of optoelectronic vlsi, the advantages of optoelectronic fabrication and the wide variety of applications of optoelectronic vlsi are discussed. subsequent chapters discuss the new techniques for fabrication of vlsi photonic devices in si, iii-v, and other novel materials. a particular focus is on the unique electronic and optical properties of iii-v semiconductors which can be combined to provide device structures with unique characteristics. finally, key aspects of optoelectronic integration of these devices with electronic circuits are discussed in order to fabricate vlsi optoelectronic circuits and systems.

[30]. the advantage of this method is that the development of a film layer can be suppressed with a minimum of effort, simply by avoiding direct contact of the growth of carbon on a metal substrate.
