Virtual Drumline comes prepackaged for Kontakt Player. In addition, VDL also supports the following formats for import (if your system supports the export format as well): MKA (for Mac OS X), WAVE, AIFF, WAV, AU (for Windows), and OFF, VNS (for Windows) (see the sample Editor tab for sample file details).
To view and manage the content of VDL, the VDL interface is organized into the following major tabs, accessible from the User interface (UI) Tools tab: Devices, Samples, Instruments, Tracks, Sorts, Structures, AEF, Templates, Library, History. Content can be organized by Sorts into the following categories: Drumset, Percussion, Keyboard, Keyboard percussions, Multi-sampled, and Instrument. Sorted content can be arranged by various criteria: Keystem, Mallet, Ensemble, Roll, Arpeggiation, and Percussion Instrument. Instruments can be viewed in 2 basic modes: Browse, and Preview.
If you look in the Sample View windows, you’ll notice that the Virtual Drumline library is organized into the following types of samples: VDL Instrument, VDL Instrument Bank, and VDL Sampler Bank. Sampler Banks can include both single and multi-sampled instruments. Sampler Banks can be either VDL instrument or VDL instrument loops. Unlike Instruments in the Instrument Bank, Sampler Banks can be categorized into various categories: Drumkit, Drumset, Percussion, Keyboard, and Extensions. Arpeggiation categories include: Ensemble, Solo, Roll, Glissando, and Percussion Instrument.
As mentioned above, Instruments can be purchased through the VDL command “Buy Instrument” (on an instrument), or the VDL “Buy Instruments” command. These instruments are all full-MIDI instruments, and they can also be imported into the Sampler Banks. Instruments are grouped by Instrument category: Drums, Percussion, Percussion Loops, Keyboard, Percussion Combo, Mallet Loops, and Ensemble.
Virtual Drumline is not just about marching drums. Its huge collection of orchestral, world, effect, drumset, rhythm section, and drumline instruments are programmed with virtually any articulations and playing techniques imaginable. Enhanced multi-sampled velocity layers, attack/release and EQ control, multiple mallet selections, rolls, glissandi, solos and ensembles, and automatic RH/LH alternations are but a few of the powerful features programmed into the VDL instrument collection.
