This is amazing. I haven’t been this shocked in a while. This is a shame. Once you set the HD settings to Standard, it should continue to give you 720p without any issues. What version of Windows 7 are you running? Did you set it to the 1080p? I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t continue to give you 720p if your HD is set to standard (and I’m willing to bet that it is, and that the OS itself is working fine).
What software are you using to play the media? I’d imagine most software would simply continue to work for now until all the problems are fixed. Most streaming services need to be able to transfer properly if you want them to actually work.
Now, that’s a shame. That’s a pretty big oversight.

IE7 has problems with large files and/or multiple requests – it also depends on your browser (FIrefox is a little better) – which port numbers you might also need to consider, to see if you need to specifically tie things up to the windows firewall..

I have the same issue with Windows 7 SP1 using the exact same router, external hard drives, and virtualized XP machine. I have an alienware and the software is no different. Anyone have a work around?

On Vista I was able to disable the firewall using Windows Firewall with Advanced Security, and it solved the problem, but in Win7 when I went to turn off the firewall it came up with an error message. Has anyone else heard of this?

Recently i came across this solution, copied on to a forum, very similar to the problem that i faced and worked instantly for me. Change Computer Name and Security Setting of the C: Drive to your old one from which you have copied windows and then restart the PC. Rename the copied Windows 7 to “Your_old_saved_Windows_7.dmg” and then run it. Your computer name and Security Setting of the C: Drive will be changed automatically.

Test specifics:
Host box (files copied from), Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Client box (files copied to), Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Gigabit switch
Gigabit NICs on both boxes
Cat 5e throughout
9,2GB of 2,711 files varying in size from.5MB to 5MB

Summary
It’s not the exact solution I was looking for, but I took the advice from comments on this solution and test it out.

1. Renaming the copied Windows 7 to your old saved Windows 7.dmg.
2. Run the copied Windows 7.dmg and let it do it’s thing.
3. Copy back the files from your computer. Note that the restore screen says “Your restore will begin shortly.” so that it’s still not all that quick. However I think this speeds things up because it removes any extra resume delays.
4. The computer name and Security Setting of the C: Drive will be changed automatically. You can also change the computer name by opening My Computer, right-click the C: Drive, click Properties, click Computer Name, and set it.

i had a similar issue with my wireless network adapter. in my case, the adapter worked fine with xp and 7, but not windows 7 on a new dell inspiron 8500. while troubleshooting, i found several fixes that worked for my adapter, but only one worked for my wireless. after upgrading, i had to re-configure my wireless adapter for 7.
i recently upgraded my wireless adapter, and tried to upgrade to windows 7. i used the windows 7 upgrade advisor to determine whether the adapter was compatible. it told me it was compatible, but i got an error when i ran the upgrade. i figured it was a problem with my adapter, so i uninstalled it, and then installed it again. i had the same error.
i’m running windows 7 enterprise, and my fileserver is running windows server 2008 r2. this did not cause the problems mentioned in this thread, but it seems that some of the fixes described here may benefit me (since i’m not having any of the problems described.) i’ve already installed the update, and the server is running fine, but i’d like to know if this will do the trick.
i’ve had no problems with windows 7 home premium 64 bit. my problem was only with the second update after the first one. i’ve just started to do the second one. i hope to be able to report the status when it’s over.
i downloaded the driver from net. for whatever reason, i had some issues trying to use the net driver for the card. you can select the appropriate driver for your card by clicking the device manager in windows 7 (it’s under network adapters.) if you have issues with the net driver, download the driver from net.
