if you are experiencing slow firefox browser, then most likely the performance issue you are having is caused by our default browser.showwhenstarting that’s provided by firefox. this download manager should be disabled to improve the performance of the browser, as it is a resource hog and unnecessary. if you find that disabling this setting doesn’t resolve your performance issues, then you can use the per-profile performance.
this add on allows you to share your current tab’s url (or location in case of recent version) to any site you wish to by dragging a link on your desktop and dropping it anywhere on that site. see https://www.pcsclite.org/ for more information.
note that each firefox add-on has its own userchrome.css and usercontent.css file. so, you can set your preferences per add-on by using its own. if you do not have many add-ons enabled, you can keep the userchrome.css as default.
besides setting preferences, you can also use many userchrome.css options in userchrome.css. this is the default userchrome.css, by wrench (make sure you have the latest version installed) and customtab as a (technical) example.
firefox keeps the new tab page url in your profile’s sessionstore.sqlite. edit this file to change the url. when closing firefox, it will ask you if you want to save the changes in your profile. if you do, wait until the new tabs are indeed opened with the new url.
In August 2008, I had a remote client whose Internet connection slowed down at the rate of about five seconds per minute. Once again, Firefox 60+ uses a new mechanism for selecting the parent frame, called Frame DOM. This was meant to help improving performance, but this is not the case. When having the tab tab-1 open, one clicks the tabs tab-2 and tab-3, which are on the same frame, then tab-1 – resulting in tab-1 having a new child window. This window is obviously selected as the parent frame, which means that the old window loses its last focus and becomes the new parent – which is absurd, because it is not technically the same window.
